Here at PECI we take energy use seriously. In fact, we monitor exactly how much energy we use in our office space. This isn’t unusual, as many newer buildings have this capability, and even some older buildings have been upgraded to be able to do this. But we are unique with respect to the level of detail we have with our ability to monitor how much energy we use.
I recently came across two articles that prove why I am proud to be an Oregonian. The first was a story in Sustainable Business Oregon’s e-newsletter that announced per capita car registration in Oregon has dipped 5 percent in the last three years.
Those of us at PECI are very fortunate to work in one of the newest, greenest, and “coolest” buildings in downtown Portland. Frank Lloyd Wright would be proud knowing that both form and function are exemplified at First & Main. Not only is the building aesthetic, it has some of the newest technologies in terms of energy efficiency measures throughout the building. PECI's office space is no exception. In fact, we’ve taken these energy efficiency measures to an even higher level within our own working environment.
Try explaining what PECI does at your typical neighborhood cocktail party, and see what happens.
Here comes the smashing couple in evening attire. They ask what I do, and then what PECI is, and so I inhale deeply and begin my elevator pitch.
“PECI is a leader in the field of energy efficiency solutions, with expertise in designing and delivering programs for utility and government agency clients....”
He checks his watch. She stares into space. They wander off in search of hors d'oeuvres.
These days, everyone is a solutions provider, even this guy:
Each year I get more and more into the holiday cheer at the office. Last year I brought in my record player and my cube mates brought some of their favorite holiday jams. It was perfect addition next to my poinsettia and Christmas plants.
We work because the world is unfinished and it is ours to develop. - Joan Chittister
PECI is often described as a “mission-driven” organization, and many, perhaps most, of us work here because of it. Among our employees, you’ll find people with rich and varied backgrounds, educations, and professional experiences. They’ve all made their way to PECI to do meaningful and important work that in some way makes the world better.
In early November, the Northwest Energy Efficiency Task force (NEET) met in Tacoma, WA. NEET was formed to bring together a group of high-level leaders to focus and improve the efficiency of electricity use throughout the Pacific Northwest. The task force pulled together innovative ideas from successful energy efficiency programs and explored how, through regional collaboration, energy efficiency can be delivered more efficiently.
As I write this post, I have been an employee at PECI for 3 months, 1 week, 3 days and approximately 5 hours. And I love it.
My background in marketing started with a job as project manager at a small marketing agency in McMinnville, Oregon, where I worked for about three years. I enjoyed the work and valued the experience, but the work I was doing just didn’t speak to me. So when my husband and I moved to Portland so he could pursue his dream career, I decided I would do the same.
Welcome to the new PECI Blog. Now that we’ve officially opened our virtual doors, we hope that you’ll come in, take a look around, maybe even jump in on a lively conversation or two.
As you familiarize yourself, you may be wondering: what’s up with the name? Uh, PECI Blog? I mean wow. We really went out on a limb with that one.
This is like the blogosphere’s equivalent of this:
