Monitoring
Home Energy Monitoring & Management Systems (or HEMS for short) provide valuable feedback about a home’s energy usage. Although not a new technology, the effectiveness of these systems has improved dramatically in recent years. PECI is actively researching and testing HEMS to find the best and most innovative systems, encouraging smarter, more connected homes.
PECI has developed a number of ready-to-launch, commercial and residential monitoring-based pilot programs. We are actively seeking utility clients to engage in partnerships on these pilots with the goal of demonstrating the effectiveness of monitoring-based approaches to achieve deeper savings.
In-Home Display (IHD) Evaluation
HEMS collect home energy information in a variety of ways. Those with in-home displays give feedback to homeowners via dashboards on specially designed monitors or via software installed on personal computers. PECI is testing several IHDs to determine their effectiveness, accuracy and ease of use.
Online Energy Feedback Evaluation
HEMS which collect home energy consumption information from the smart grid – via smart meters – can provide feedback to homeowners online and with utility cooperation. PECI is evaluating several of these tools to determine if they can help consumers save energy, and the best ways to incorporate them into our residential programs.
PECI piloted 5 home energy monitoring systems and recommended 3 for inclusion in programs.
Being able to track my home’s energy usage through an elegant dashboard on my computer or smart phone, not only makes saving energy fun and informative, but it’s also showing results!
