Governor Appoints Emily Kemper to Oregon Residential and Manufactured Structures Board
Emily Kemper, Assoc. AIA, Technical Manager at PECI, was appointed by Governor Kitzhaber and subsequently confirmed to the Oregon Residential and Manufactured Structures Board. Kemper will fill the Board’s only public seat.
The Oregon Residential and Manufactured Structures Board assists the Director of the Department of Consumer and Business Services in administering Oregon’s Low-Rise Residential Dwelling Code, which provides requirements, including structural design provisions, related to the construction of residential dwellings three stores or less above grade. Kemper’s background in Building Science and with PECI will serve the public’s interest on the Board by focusing on quality and livability, and supporting efforts to build more energy efficient homes.
“I’m thrilled to serve the State of Oregon in a capacity where my technical expertise can be a big plus,” said Kemper. “Building codes affect us all, and Oregon has been a leader in progressive policies that are good for residents and the environment. It’s great that energy efficiency and best practices are so embedded into our thinking and codes, and that our state is full of trained building professionals who know how to do the work correctly.”
A technical manager in PECI’s engineering department, Kemper is a LEED Accredited Professional as well as an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects. In addition, she has served as an Adjunct Professor with the University of Oregon, where she pioneered a class entitled “Assessing the Performance of Sustainable Buildings.” Kemper also regularly blogs for PECI, making building science understandable for the general public. Her posts can be viewed on the PECI Blog.
