Bonneville Power Administration and EnergySmart Grocer Team Up for Another Round of Energy-Savings
New contract extends PECI-managed energy efficiency program for two additional years
Throughout the Pacific Northwest and California, EnergySmart Grocer helps grocery stores and other facilities with commercial refrigeration reduce operating costs by making energy-efficient upgrades and retrofits. The program, which is managed by PECI, recently signed a contract with the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) that will extend its efforts in the Pacific Northwest for another two years.
The BPA contract extension comes after a successful close to the program’s previous term – 2010 through 2011 – during which EnergySmart Grocer delivered 93 million kWh in savings across 85 of the BPA’s local utilities. Since the inception of the BPA’s EnergySmart Grocer program in 2007, PECI has delivered more than 144 million kWh energy savings in over 3,000 grocery stores and restaurants region wide - enough energy to power approximately 144,000 homes for one year.
“Extending EnergySmart Grocer for another two years supports our company mission of providing thoughtful and market-moving expertise in the area of energy management,” says Jeremy Litow, Grocery Practice Director at PECI. “By offering a comprehensive energy efficiency program—no-cost energy audits, site-specific analysis, access to qualified contactors and financial incentives—small and large store owners are able to lower their operating costs. These collective savings add up to anything from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars a year, depending on operation’s size.”
The new BPA contract terms also allow EnergySmart Grocer to expand PECI’s refrigeration facility services. EnergySmart Grocer may now include HVAC, new grocery store construction, existing building commissioning and enhanced lighting technologies, within the scope of commercial refrigeration projects.
“EnergySmart Grocer has been one of the most successful energy efficiency programs in the Northwest,” says Gary L. Smith, Program Manager at the Bonneville Power Administration. “We’re eager to assist our utilities in helping their customers save money and energy, while meeting public power’s share of regional energy conservation goals.”
PECI and EnergySmart Grocer have a long-standing reputation for delivering energy savings, and the BPA contract extension further supports the program’s capabilities. Commercial businesses with refrigeration equipment, and are located in participating BPA utility territories, should contact the EnergySmart Grocer program at 1.800.230.9420 or visit www.energysmartonline.org to learn more about efficient upgrades for their business. Availability of financial incentives is contingent on each participating utility’s terms and conditions.
