Metering and Performance Metrics

Greg Sullivan, PE, Efficiency Solutions
Bill Younger, Puget Sound Energy

Building owners need information and tools to help them determine the value of energy efficiency strategies in order to select, implement and maintain the performance of their facilities. Advanced metering technologies and performance metrics enable the sophisticated analysis, verification and benchmarking of building performance that’s needed to effectively manage complex building systems.

This session will present best practices for utilizing energy-use metering technologies and performance metrics tracking and analysis to support financial decisions regarding energy efficiency projects and for use in ongoing maintenance of building performance.

Greg Sullivan will discuss metering technologies, concepts and planning in the context of his work in developing the US DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program Metering Best Practices Guide to Achieving Utility Resource Efficiency.

Bill Younger will focus on the strategic use of monthly and interval usage data available from utility meters to evaluate overall performance of commercial buildings, monitor operating schedules of major systems, and validate the effectiveness of commissioning efforts.
