AESP: Reminders from Ed Begley Jr

While attending the AESP National Conference in San Diego, I had the opportunity to spend time with many like-minded people. Most of us believe in energy efficiency and are looking to learn from others on how to grow our businesses and the industry. Kicking off the event, Ed Begley Jr. (@edbegleyjr) actor and renowned environmentalist reminded us why we are in this business through anecdotes from his own experiences at home and growing up as a struggling actor.

Ed emphasized that everyone can start small with easy-to-do projects around the house, and the impact we have when we leave the house. We can turn off lights, install weather proofing strips, insulate with recyclable materials --including, taking the bus instead of driving! These small improvements led to much bigger cost-saving strategies once he realized how much money he was saving through these smaller changes.

This cycle of starting small and gradually increasing energy savings through larger projects is very similar in approach to our Inform-to-Invest™ philosophy of how PECI Commercial Energy Analysts help customers identify those small projects first, help them realize savings, and use that investment for more and larger energy savings projects.

Ed concluded his session by telling us how he was recently surprised after an energy audit at home that found drafts and exposed walls with no insulation. Though a super-activist, Ed realized that technologies change and there are improvements to make for most everyone!
